rgplates now part of GPlates software family

rgplates has joined the GPlates family! rgplates allows the integration of tectonic calculations into the R software environment for statistical computing and graphics. Paleogeographic reconstructions in GPlates can be directly connected to a vast number of statistical libraries available in R, which is also the primary scripting language of the paleobiology community. The figure below demonstrates the contextualization of fossil occurrence records using paleogeographic data products. The locations of Kimmeridgian (Late Jurassic) dinosaur fossil collections from the Paleobiology Database were reconstructed with rgplates to match proxy-corrected HadCM3L climatemodel results (mean annual air surface temperatures), based on a Paleomap reconstruction at 150 Ma. Further details, references, and the code for making this map created by Ádám Kocsis can be found here.
