The EarthByte research group is known for pursuing open innovation, involving the collaborative development of open-source paleogeographic information system software as well as global digital data sets made available under a creative commons license. One of the fundamental aims of the EarthByte Group is geodata synthesis through space and time, assimilating the wealth of disparate geological and geophysical data into four-dimensional (space-time) plate tectonic and Earth models. We have exciting opportunities for PhD and Masters students in the areas of:
● marine geology and geophysics
● plate motions
● geodynamics
● surface process modelling
● continental margin and basin evolution
● data science and machine learning
Available scholarships – FULLY FUNDED
International students can apply for the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship (International). This scheme is funded by the Australian Government and provides tuition fees and stipend to top quality international postgraduate students. Applications are assessed on academic merit and research potential. Those under consideration for an RTP Scholarship will automatically be considered for a University of Sydney International Scholarship, which also covers tuition fees and provides a stipend. Applications for these scholarships are accepted all year but it is advisable to submit your application by October for a 2020 start date. Based on previous’ years recipients you need to have at least one publication to be competitive for these scholarships.

Domestic students can apply for the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP). If offered a place in our program, you will receive an RTP Fees Offset Scholarship, which covers tuition. Stipends are awarded to students of exceptional research potential through a competitive process via the RTP Stipend Scholarships. University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (UPA) are similar to RTP Scholarships in terms of tenure and benefits. Eligible RTP applicants are automatically considered for these awards.
