Dr. Behnam Sadeghi, in 2020, was introduced as the first recipient of the “Founders Scholarship” award of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG), now being presented annually to the most outstanding student or post-graduate scientist in the field of Mathematical Geosciences. This award is given in honor and memory of the individuals who participated in the founding of IAMG in 1968 at the 23rd International Geological Congress in Prague and who subsequently gave significant service to the Association. The scholarship was established to mark the IAMG’s 50th Celebration and aims to provide greater recognition and opportunities to grow and excel for those setting out in the field of mathematical geoscience.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the IAMG meetings and conferences have been canceled or deferred. To make sure that IAMG continues to engage actively with the members, the Council planned a series of three online events in August 2021, each for approximately two hours. At these online events, the awardees of the 2020 and 2021 IAMG awards presented their results in a talk with a discussion afterward.
Behnam talked about “All models are wrong, but WHAT some are useful?”, the developments have been done for this sake, and what he has developed so far in this regard.
