Welcome newcomers!
Welcome!
Caesar is a PhD student within the EarthByte group, where he researches plate reconstruction and landscape evolution of the Southern South Atlantic. He is particularly interested in studying the breakup history of Gondwana and its implications for the tectonic and geodynamic evolution of the South Atlantic Ocean, including the formation of microcontinents. With a master’s degree in the tectonic evolution of Santos Basin offshore southeast Brazil and 18 years of experience as an explorationist in the oil and gas industry, Caesar brings a strong background in structural geology and basin analysis to his current research at the EarthByte group.
Alongside the EarthByte research group, Caesar’s doctoral work aims to build upon previous studies on the kinematics of the southwest Gondwana and its back-arc basins and the Southern South Atlantic rift system. Investigating the relationships between plate motion changes, mantle dynamics, and the formation of sedimentary basins along the conjugate margins of South America and Africa, all integrated with a landscape evolution model for the last 250 million years, the group hopes to understand better the source-to-sink system of the rifted margins in the Southern South Atlantic.
