Welcome newcomers!
Welcome!
Valentin Rime is pursuing a two-years postdoc research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation at the University of Sydney with the EarthByte group. Valentin did his BSc, MSc, PhD and a first postdoc at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland where he studied the structure of the Jura Mountains, the basin dynamics of the Danakil Depression, and the geological evolution of the Afar Depression. His current research focuses on the evolution of the Northern Alpine Foreland Basin. After more than 25 Myr of accumulation, the basin started eroding approx. 5 Myr ago but the causes of this change are not clearly identified. Landscape evolution modelling with the goSPL code will allow to investigate the relative contribution of different tectonic and climatic processes on this major change in basin dynamics and to better understand the evolution of the Alpine system and the link between foreland basins and orogenic belts.
